1. I stopped counting the minutes.Even though Madrid is far from the coast, the Madrileños live an easy Mediterranean lifestyle.My first impulse was to use these free siesta hours to run errands. I was immediately frustrated to find nunca de las tiendas open. I couldn’t buy a piece of fruit or get a haircut to save my life.
“Stop being so silly,” the dinner-party guests said. “It’s a driver’s job to wait.”My friend Sholeh and I had arrived in India that morning. A friend of a friend was having a dinner party in New Delhi and had invited us. Our driver, Sharma, waited outside in the Ambassador car.“It’s cold,” I said.“It’s his work,” Sholeh said.
1. Do you see kangaroos wandering around daily?There’s a conception that the kangaroo in Australia is equivalent to the squirrel in America — but kangaroos do not, in fact, roam the cities of Australia or beg for food outside restaurant patios. Living on the Gold Coast, the only time I saw kangaroos was at the zoo… just like in America.
I’m 5’4 with fair skin that burns easily, long medium-brown hair, largish blue-grey eyes and teeth that aren’t too tidy by US standards, but that have never needed any work. My body’s not exactly thin, but not fat either. Most importantly, I’m in good health and I exercise often. I feel confident wearing makeup most of the time, but I don’t fret if caught running errands without.

THE GRAND CANYON doesn’t need any help being amazing. But every several years, a rare phenomenon fills the massive canyon up with fog, turning the wonder of the world into an otherworldly wonder.The phenomenon is called a “total cloud inversion,” and it happens when cold air in the canyon is trapped in by warm layer of air above it, forming a sea of clouds.
The community of Shishmaref, located on Sarichef Island, north of the Bering Strait, took a vote last Tuesday (August 16th). They had to decide whether or not to relocate their entire village due to climate change. The lack of ice affects their capacity to collect enough meat for the winter (by hunting and fishing), as well as other traditional activities.
